High School Student Robbed of Shoulder Bag

Two boys ran up behind a 15-year-old girl and stole her bag on Ardmore Avenue last week, according to Whitefish Bay police reports.

A 15-year-old Whitefish Bay girl was robbed of her shoulder bag while walking to band rehearsal at Whitefish Bay High School last week.

The girl told police she was walking down the 4900 block of Ardmore Avenue when two boys ran up from behind her, took her shoulder bag, and left in a get-away vehicle around 7 p.m. Jan. 15, according to the police report. The girl was not able to identify the suspects.

The girl told police she purchased the bag in Mexico for $15. Inside the bag was a piece of Whitefish Bay athletic apparel valued at $50 and a sheet music book valued at $100, according to the police report.

Police saw a vehicle matching the get-away vehicle's description and pulled it over in the Dominican High School parking lot. The vehicle also had suspended registration for unpaid parking tickets, according to the report.

Police did not locate the shoulder bag in the car, but they took down information from the driver, a 19-year-old Milwaukee man, and the three passengers: a 17-year-old Mequon boy and two 16-year-old Milwaukee boys.

During follow-up interviews with the boys, Whitefish Bay police learned the 17-year-old boy was picked up from his home in Mequon and was driven to Shorewood to collect and pay off an old drug debt, according to the report. While they were waiting to collect, the foursome drove around the Whitefish Bay area looking for someone to rob to get additional money.

After they the stole the girl's bag, one boy ran directly to the get-away car. The other boy jumped a fence, hid inside of a garage in the 4900 block of Wildwood Avnue and ditched the stolen items behind a garage in the 4900 block of Ardmore Avenue, according to the report.

Whitefish Bay police recommended the 19-year-old Milwaukee man and 17-year-old Mequon boy be charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court, but the District Attorney's office declined to issue charges. The other boys are facing juvenile charges, which are currently pending in Milwaukee County Children's Court. The driver of the get-away vehicle was cited for operating with suspended registration.

So the boys got off without charges?

...Also, did she get her stuff back? This story needs more follow-up. I hope the girl is doing OK.

Meg Jones, Journal Sentinel (Milwaukie), July 6, 2011 Shaina Perry remembers the punch to her face, blood streaming from a cut over her eye, her backpack with her asthma inhaler, debit card and cellphone stolen, and then the laughter. “They just said ‘Oh, white girl bleeds a lot,’ ” said Perry, 22, who was attacked at Kilbourn Reservoir Park over the Fourth of July weekend. Though Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn noted Tuesday that crime is colorblind, he called the Sunday night looting of a convenience store near the park and beatings of a group of people who had gone to the park disturbing, outrageous and barbaric. “We’re not going to let any group of individuals terrorize or bully any of our neighborhoods,” Flynn said. Perry was among several who were injured by a mob they said beat and robbed them and threw full beer bottles while making racial taunts. The injured people were white; the attackers were African-American, witnesses said. *This type of attack is happening with to much frequency, and we don't charge the perps? The Obama philosophy 'steal from those who have."

There is no denying that Obama's philosophy is divide and conquer.

The real crime is the DA office declining to issue charges. Bet that sits well with the girls parents! Watch out boys...one day someone you pick on will be defending themselves when you don't expect it. There better not be any charges when the people defend themselves. The article does not mention the DA's rationale for no charges. And what about the dealer in Shorewood? No charges there? This article leaves a lot of questions.

being racist about these type of situations is the wrong way to go. Citizens, especially African Americans have come a long way. Its sad that any human being would look down on anybody. Its not all blacks committing crimes. Trust me. Rascism should be done and away with by now. Especially with all the things that are happening around the world. Its easy to judge, but hard to take a look at your self and people in your own family. Not saying this crime is right, but the verbage clearly says that black people. smh, its sad

I don't see the racist angle in this story and it's a distorted sense of justice to suggest it. The way it's written, these guys did this and should have been charged if the facts supported it. And it's not just a theft of a bag, they took any sense of security this girl had in her daily walk to school. She will look over her shoulder for the remainder of high school. That's wrong. Plain wrong. It's So ironic that she's walking to band and gets accosted by dirtbags on a drug errand. These punks had no legitimate reason for being in WFB--not that they can't or shouldn't be here, ever--but clearly, the reason they were here to begin with was outside the law. And they admitted to all this too. I have no problem with anyone who wants to participate in our community events, show up at Cahill to play ball or tennis, etc. Or take part in out 4th of July, Trick or Treat, attend church, schools, or- gasp- move in next door to me. But to paper over clearly criminal behavior by calling the situation "racist" only serves to propagate the underlying problems and causes while destroying the security of the entire community. Until there's ownership and accountability for the behavior, and good parenting in ALL parts of the city, this back-and forth will continue with absolutely no progress towards better civil conditions.

OK mr. "Milwaukee" person. I dont know if you read the comments above, as to what so called witnesses said but, it read: The injured people were white; the attackers were African-American, witnesses said. *This type of attack is happening with to much frequency, and we don't charge the perps? The Obama philosophy 'steal from those who have." Steal from those who have? smh, I dont even want to start on questioning what that means. My only point was that in any situation involving African Americans, "people" try to drag it in the dirt. I just feel that the situation with the young lady being robbed was sad all by itself. I wouldnt want to see that happen to anyone.Nomatter where they live, their ethnic background or whatever else. You are so right that she should have to look over her shoulder, boy do I know how that feels. Im sure she wont, because while I feel that some things are not right and people are not always punished for what they do. WFB has great police, they care and have a heart. I know we dont live in a positive world. I am African American and have been badly mistreated by whites and blacks. The fact is, I was treated unlawfully.

I meant she should not have to look over her shoulder. (typo)
