Door-to-Door Magazine Solicitor Insults Police Officer

An aggressive Tennessee salesman prompted several calls to the police station, but the man didn't seem too concerned when an officer asked about his permit.

If you're selling magazines door to door, you might want to develop a bedside manner that doesn't include racial slurs and insulting police officers.

A Whitefish Bay police officer approached the 31-year-old man from Memphis, TN in the 5100 block of Palisades Road on July 24, and he walked right past the officer, waved the officer off with his hand and told the officer he did not need to talk to her and that he did not have to identify himself.

He called the officer a profane name and said he needed to sell magazines to "some white crackers." He said he had been all over the country and had been continually told by police officers that he needed a permit. He said the officers would give him tickets and he would move on to the next state.

The officer called for two other officers, who took the man into custody. The man's background shows he has a variety of violations spanning 15 states, including an arrest on July 21 for soliciting without a permit in Waukesha County.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office declined to issue state charges against the man. Whitefish Bay police cited him for disorderly conduct and soliciting without a permit.
