Burglar Strikes While Residents are Home

A laptop, briefcase and wallets were stolen from a house on Cramer Street last week.

A Whitefish Bay home was struck by a burglar in the middle of the night last week while the residents were upstairs.

Whitefish Bay police responded to the 4600 block of Cramer Street shortly after receiving a report of a burglary at 4:33 a.m. Sept. 24.

One of the residents told police he was startled by a sound at 4 a.m. Sept. 24. He went downstairs and saw that the back motion light was on, and about 18 minutes later, he heard what sounded like a car door closing. The resident then went back downstairs and discovered that his laptop, briefcase and wallets containing cash and credit cards were missing, according to the police report.

The homeowner told police he last saw the items when he went to bed at 11 p.m. the night before.

The homeowner told police the burglar probably entered the home from an unlocked outside door that leads to a three season room. Another door that leads to the kitchen was unlocked, so the burglar was able to open the door and enter the home, according to the police report.

Police also found pry marks on two other doors, according to the police report. Whitefish Bay police recovered prints and DNA swabs from some of the door handles, and brought them back to the station as evidence in the case.

It seems the criminals venturing into Bay have gotten a lot more brazen as of late. Muggings, home invasions...Perhaps its time to lock the house, the cars, and the garage service doors.
