Obituary: Former Whitefish Bay Superintendent Lawrence Heyerdahl
After a 39-year career in education, Heyerdahl died last week at the age of 82.
Lawrence Heyerdahl, 82 died Friday, August 3rd, 2012 at the Jack and Engrid Meng Residence of Hospice. Larry had battled Chronic Lymphoma Leukemia for some time.
Lawrence Heyerdahl, Jr. was born on June 29, 1930 in Beloit, WI. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Gladys Heyerdahl. Larry was raised in Brodhead, WI where he graduated from high school in 1948. He graduated from Waldorf Jr. College, Forest City, IA and earned his bachelors degree from Iowa State University, Ames, IA. Larry earned his Masters and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI.
He married Betty Holtan on May 31, l950 and this union was blessed with six children.

Larry began his career as a high school math and science teacher, then high school principal and then for thirty two years served as Superintendent of Schools at Big Foot High School, Walworth, WI, Whitefish Bay School District, Whitefish Bay, WI, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, Columbus, IN and finishing his career as Superintendent of Schools in Ashwaubenon which made 39 years in education.
During these years Larry enjoyed singing in church choirs, some Barbershop Quartet singing, and after retirement he enjoyed wintering in Florida where he enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty, one daughter Nancy (Jeff) Bump, Cambria, WI, and five sons, Mark (Debbie) Turtle Lake, WI, Dr. Dan (Karen), Appleton, WI, Douglas (Jill), Cedar Hill, TX., Timothy (Kelly) Alpharetta, GA, and Steven (Darcy) Indianapolis, IN. Also survived by seventeen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and five step- great grandchildren. Larry is survived by a brother David (Kathy), Twain Harte, CA and by a brother-in-law Arvid (Maryon) Holtan, Joice, IA and a sister-in-law Norma (Don) Wakeley, Bellevue, WA.
Memorials may be made to the Ashwaubenon Education Foundation, 1055 Griffiths Lane, Green Bay, WI 54304, Calvary Lutheran Church or to Unity Hospice.
