Have You Used Your Local Rec Department?

The Whitefish Bay Rec Department offers a wide variety of programs for a fraction of the cost of private classes.

We recently finished up our very first toddler swim session hosted by the Whitefish Bay Rec Department. Sydney is a little fish when it comes to being in the water and Christina, our instructor, was very impressed. I'm so amazed that she took to the water so well during the first week and never looked back.

Our last week was a fun class. All she wanted to do was play with the squirty fish. I'm so glad I decided to enroll her in the class because we've already been invited to a pool party. While I'll still be going in the pool with her, I'm glad that she's aware of the water and we won't have to deal with her fear - not that she has a fear of anything. As we finished up the class, I realized that we were the only family in our age group that signed up for the class, which is why we were bumped to the next time slot into a bigger class. I didn't mind a bit. When I realized we were the only family signed up for this age group, I wondered why. Are you utilizing your local rec department?  Did you know you can find out the details of the class offerings by going to the rec department's website? From what I understand, the rec department classes are generally taught by people from our community.

Are you wondering about cost? To give you an idea, we paid less than $50 for about 10 weeks of class. I recently heard of someone who takes her son to a private swim class of four students and pays over $200 for the same 10 weeks. That same person just told me about a toddler gymnastics class that Sydney would love. When I asked her about the cost,$135 for 5 classes. The parent tot class offered by the Whitefish Bay Rec Department is $35 for six weeks.

I grew up attending swim lessons, softball and other sports hosted by the local rec departments and maybe that's why I'm aware. For our family, utilizing the Whitefish Bay Rec Department make sense.

Do you know you can also attend classes located in nearby municipalities for just a slightly higher cost?  You can find this information out by searching the web for nearby municipalities.
