Volunteers Needed for Klode Park Weed-Out

Do you want to help keep Klode Park maintained without the use of pesticides?

The Whitefish Bay Garden club will be holding a "Weed Out" at the park Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and all are invited to help out. Volunteers will meet by the tennis courts and start in that area. Workers should bring garden gloves, a digging tool and brown paper yard waste bags.

A similar weed-out held last year attracted roughly 90 volunteers to Klode Park.

The choice to implement natural turf practices at Klode Park is part of the natural turf management plan recently approved by the Village Board. The plan calls for Klode Park's existing $1,000 pesticide budget to be reallocated toward aerating all of the grass in the park.

Other natural turf care methods - such as overseeding, compost tea, gypsum – will be performed with private funds being solicited through the Healthy Communities Project.

Volunteers can sign up for the Weed Out on the Garden Club website.
