Natural Lawn Care Meeting to be Held on Tuesday

The Whitefish Bay Garden Club will present a free seminar titled, "Growing a Greener Bay, One Yard at a Time," at 7 p.m. Tuesday

Do you want to use more environmentally friendly products and practices in your back yard, but don’t know where or how to start?

The Whitefish Bay Garden Club will present a seminar titled, "Growing a Greener Bay, One Yard at a Time," at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Whitefish Bay Village Hall. The event is free and open to the public, but you can RSVP on the garden club's website. Click on "Projects and Events" and scroll down to "March Regular Meeting." 

The panel of experts will present information to help you understand the importance of using more environmentally friendly products and practices in your yard or garden. The discussion will range from organic lawn, garden, pest and weed control, to water management, current research, product know-how, and specific ways you can get started, or take your personal strategies to the next level. Handouts will be available.

Amy Joyce
Co-Founder/Co-Director, Healthy Communities Project, a Whitefish Bay-based pesticide reduction advocacy group since 2001.Her primary focus: Residential and Municipal Organic Turf Management Educator, as well as liaison to village, school district, and other environmental and public health organizations.

Karen Sands
Manager of Sustainability for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District where she's worked for 11 years on green infrastructure, flood management and public involvement projects. Karen is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners, and actively serves on the boards of Clean Wisconsin, 1K Friends of Wisconsin, and Friends of the Hank Aaron State Trail.

Sharon Morrissey
Consumer Horticulture Agent, Milwaukee County UW-Extension. Sharon will share the current research recently released in 4 publications that cover the latest lawn care recommendations, ”reduced risk” lawn care as defined by the EPA, and cultural care of lawns.

Darrell Smith
Founder, Earthcare Natural Lawn and Landscapes. Darrell’s passion is utilizing natural systems to cultivate beautiful landscapes that are safer for human and ecological communities. Earthcare combines organic maintenance with landscape design centered around native plants and natural forms.
