Pasch challenges Darling, a changing of the guard at Village Hall and other headlines from Whitefish Bay Patch this week.

Dozens of people braved the rain at Whitefish Bay's Cahill Park Friday afternoon to hear directly from Rep. Sandy Pasch that she is launching a campaign to challenge Sen. Alberta Darling for her 8th District Senate seat in a July recall election. The election is expected be held July 12.

Monday marked a changing of the guard at Village Hall. After three years as Village Trustee, Julie Siegel took her new seat at the head of the board, and Trustees Brenda Szumski and Lauri Rollings took their seats on the board for the first time. Monday was also the first day of work for new Village Manager Patrick DeGrave.

The Milwaukee County Board's proposed redistricting plan would divide Whitefish Bay in two, squeezing out conservative supervisor Joe Rice. Currently, Rice’s 6th District includes all of Whitefish Bay, Fox Point, River Hills and Bayside, and parts of Glendale and Milwaukee. The redistricting places Rice’s home in the district served by Gerry Broderick, who lives on the East Side of Milwaukee and has served on the board since July 2002. Rice’s seat is the only one of the 19 to have been eliminated under the plan.

When St. Monica's Spanish teacher Mary Klovers saw fifth grader Will Drea doodling during a lesson about Our Lady of Guadalupe, she did not punish him - she set him to work to explore his talents in a way that would incorporate the coursework. Will's father, Ray, helped him create a breathtaking portrait of the religious figure that will be unveiled at the 8:30am Mass on Friday, June 30.
