Week in Review: June 12 to June 18

The week in headlines from Whitefish Bay Patch.

About 200 to 300 protestors showed their displeasure with Sen. Alberta Darling's support of Gov. Scott Walker's budget, which was passed by the State Senate Thursday. The protestors met at the Bayshore Town Center Park and Ride and marched to Darling's office at 311 W. Silver Spring Dr.

Organizers of Ladies Night Out said they were pleased with the high turnout at the shopping event on Silver Spring Drive Thursday night. The night was filled with business specials, drinks and entertainment, but donations were also collected for Trees from Home, which sends Christmas trees to members of the U.S. military serving overseas.

Shorewood High School track coach Dominic Newman said he wanted to start a dialogue with local police — and it looks like he is getting his wish. Newman said Shorewood Police Chief David Banaszynski sent him an e-mail late last week requesting a private meeting with him and Whitefish Bay Police Chief Robert Jacobs to  “discuss the incident and come to a mutual understanding.” In of the incident obtained by Patch early this week, police are heard apologizing to Newman.

The Blue Dukes have been a soccer powerhouse for decades, earning their 17th trip to the big dance in the 29 years the tournament has existed. In those 17 appearances, Bay has won the state title a record seven times and have been runners-up three times. The team returned to state Thursday afternoon but was bested by conference rival Grafton in a 2-0 loss in the WIAA state quarterfinals.

Turns out Stevie the sturgeon didn’t swim far after it was reported missing from Sturgeon Interiors. The was solved after two weeks, when the son of neighboring business owner, dentist Richard Seymour, found the sculpture on the roof of the interior design business.

The senior class of Whitefish Bay High School celebrated its high school graduation at the school's 78th annual commencement ceremony Sunday, and Patch was there to capture the ceremony in a photo gallery.
