Week in Review: Bay's Top Five Stories

Top headlines include a fourth write-in candidate for Village Board, and a new bank and retail building on Silver Spring.

In case you missed it, these were the top five headlines from this week on Whitefish Bay Patch.

A developer has plans to build a new PNC Bank building and an adjacent retail building on the west end of Silver Spring Drive by the end of the year. The site at 106-130 W. Silver Spring Dr. was formerly a funeral home and a law office, but those buildings have been razed to make way for the bank at the northeast corner of Lydell Avenue and Silver Spring Drive and a retail building just east of the bank, on the northwest corner of Bay Ridge Avenue and Silver Spring Drive.

Within hours of write-in candidate Hugo Rojas filing the necessary paperwork at Village Hall, Village Trustee and blogger Kevin Buckley had the scoop on the latest candidate to enter the race for the two empty Village Trustee seats. We also interviewed MMSD attorney , the third candidate to file paperwork to run a write-in campaign.

The Whitefish Bay Business Improvement District hosted "An Evening of Wine & Chocolate" from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the shops on Silver Spring Drive. Attendees that braved the chilly weather enjoyed complimentary wine and chocolate samplings while enjoying great in-store promotions and live entertainment.

You may not have heard of "footy" or Australian Rules Football, but one 25-year-old Whitefish Bay man is making a name for himself as a rare American in the rugby-like sport. Shae McNamara is training for his second season with the Collingwood Magpies, the defending Australian Football League Premiership Champions. His first year in Australia was spent with the Magpies’ Victorian Football League side, essentially a minor-league affiliate. Check out the great videos of McNamara in action.
