Updated: Three Car Accidents in First Big Snow

The snow is coming down and sticking to the roadway this afternoon, and it is expected to continue snowing through the night.

The first big snowfall of the year caused three car accidents within 45 minutes Thursday night.

The first accident at 3:30 p.m. involved multiple cars near the . In the second accident at 4 p.m., one car took out a stop sign at Santa Monica Boulevard and Lexington Boulevard. The third accident at 4:11 p.m. involved two cars at Day and Kent Avenues. No one was injured in any of the accidents, Police Sergeant Beth Formella said.

Public works plowing crews were out and about plowing and salting the roadways Thursday – sticking to major thoroughfares first, then moving on to side streets.

The slippery conditions are expected to last through the night. The National Weather Service calls for a 100 percent chance of more snow through the evening, with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. The chances of precipitation dwindle to 50 percent on Friday, but with a high near 23 it's likely that what we've got will stick around this time.

Although the storm arrived after the morning commute, snow is acummulating on the roadways and could slow traffic for the ride home. Check the to plan your route and avoid heavy traffic.
