Private Lateral Project Will Be Discussed Tuesday

More than 300 homeowners are included in a private lateral lining project in the south end of the village.

More than 300 homeowners faced with private sanitary sewer lateral work are invited to attend an informational meeting Tuesday night.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. with a formal presentation, and then village engineers will open it up for questions from residents. The meeting will be held in the board room at Village Hall and will last until about 9 p.m.

The affected 326 homeowners received a letter about the meeting, along with an estimate on how much it will cost to line their private sanitary sewer lateral. The Village Board will consider awarding a contract for the work at its July 1 board meeting.

The relining program is scheduled to start the first week in August and last nine to 12 months. The 4600 and 4700 blocks of Woodburn will undergo flow monitoring in the spring, and those laterals will be lined no sooner than June 1, 2014.

The village's assessment policy previously offered residents a seven-year payment plan to pay for village assessments. At a recent Village Board meeting, trustees agreed to extend that seven-year payment plan to a 10-year time period.

At an earlier meeting, resident Mike Koerner expressed concern – not with the lateral lining – but with the resin ring around the pipe that reduces infiltration. Koerner said the ring process has only been in existence for six years, so the science has not been tested.

The vendor of those seals will be present at the information meeting Tuesday night to make a presentation to residents.

In addition to the private lateral lining, the village is also planning to improve the village-owned sanitary sewer mains in that area. The Village Board has authorized $810,607 to reconstruct 25 manholes, line 8,000 feet of sanitary sewer main and replace sanitary sewer facilities dating back to the 1920s and 1930s.
