The Craig Counsell Park will be closed on Memorial Day weekend, as Whitefish Bay Little League plans to spray pesticides on the field.

The village sent out an email notification to residents Thursday afternoon about the pesticide application. According to the memo, the village approved the little league's request to spray pesticides because it is in accordance with this year's turf maintenance plan.

According to the village memo:

All turf at the little league field will be sprayed with Mec Amine D (a selective broadleaf herbicide) for general weed control. Common areas and areas along fence lines will be sprayed with Razor Pro (a non-selective herbicide) to control unwanted grass and weed growth. Doucide, a granular insect controller, will be applied to control grubs and other destructive insects. A Material Safety Data Sheet on the applied products are available at the snack shack.

A certified application contractor will perform the work according to industry best practices. The park will be closed May 25 through the afternoon of May 28.
