Green Day in the Bay is May 4

Help pick up trash around the village, learn more about local environmental organizations and donate household items to local nonprofits.

The sixth Annual Green Day in the Bay will be Saturday, May 4th from 9 a.m. to noon at Cahill Park.

Here's what the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation has planned for the big day:

7:30 to 8:30 a.m. - Free Workout led by Marcela Perea of Cross Fit 100. Please register in advance at crossfit100.com.

9 a.m. to 10 a.m. – The Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation is looking for volunteers and families to form "Green Teams" to pick-up trash in our streets, parks and beaches. Prior to Green Day, you will receive a map of your team’s designated area to beautify. Bring your own work gloves. To reserve a team or a spot on a team, contact the Civic Foundation at GDIB@wfbcivicfoundation.org.  

9 a.m. to noon - Eco Play & Info Fair: Visit earth-friendly displays such as natural playscapes provided by the Sustainable Landscape Consortium and Greener Roofs and Gardens. Other exhibitors include the Whitefish Bay Farmer’s Market, Whitefish Bay Community Garden, Healthy Communities Project, Earthcare Natural Lawn and Landscapes, Forester Tree Service, The Green Team, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Bayside Garden Center and more...

Donation Drives

Green Day in the Bay is also a chance to donate old household items to local organizations working toward a good cause.

Used books can be donated to Friends of Whitefish Bay Library.

Used bikes can be donated to the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin. The bikes will be tuned and repaired through the Bike Federation’s Safe Routes to School program and then distributed around the Milwaukee area for exercise and transportation and to educate kids about safe biking practices.

Baseball, basketball and soccer gear will be collected by GLOBALL to benefit kids in need around the world.

Habitat for Humanity will collect household goods, clothing, kitchen items, baby toys, and other items.

•  Radios and Stereo equipment
•  DVD/CD/VCR equipment
