Gear Up for Bike to Work Week

Biking to work will earn you a free cup of coffee at Stone Creek this week. UWM leaders will also kick off a Bike to Campus Day at Hampton and Santa Monica Thursday morning.

If you haven't done so yet, dust off that bicycle seat, grease up those gears, inflate the tires and hit the road for Bike to Work Week, Saturday through Friday.

On the way, stop into for free coffee to fuel up for the work day. For a list of commuter stations and local events, see the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin site.

Additionally, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will celebrate a Bike to Campus Day Thursday starting at 7:45 a.m.

One leg of the bike ride will kick off in the One Hour Martinizing parking lot on the southwest corner of Hampton Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. From there, UWM Chancellor Michael R. Lovell and Provost Johannes Britz will lead a group south on the Oak Leaf Trail.

Another group will head north on the trail, starting at the Kenilworth Square building, 1925 E. Kenilworth Place. Riders will take the Oak Leaf Trail from both locations and meet on campus at Spaights Plaza, where there will be free bike tune-ups courtesy of UBike, free Grind coffee and educational materials from the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin. Also, all riders will receive a free UW-Milwaukee leg band reflector. Event is rain or shine.
