Dominican Boys Basketball Team Headed to State

The Knights (25-1) meet Colfax (24-2) in Thursday semifinals approximately 8:30 p.m. The girls team will not return to Madison this year after a loss to Racine's St. Catherine's Saturday.

After a 25-1 season and an easy win over Howards Grove Saturday, Dominican High School's boys basketball team is headed to state.

The Knights beat Howards Grove 78-47 Saturday afternoon to win the WIAA Division 4 sectional final, earning the school's first trip to the state tournament since 2008, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Top scorers included junior Duane Wilson, with 30 points, senior Breon Jordan with 16 points and freshman Diamond Stone with 16 points, according to the paper.

The Knights will face off against Colfax (24-2) in the state semifinals Thursday night at the Kohl Center in Madison.

The boys trip to state this year comes after the Dominican girls team's . The Lady Knights will not be returning to Madison this year, however, after a down-to-the-buzzer loss to a talented St Catherine's team Saturday.

Dominican, which finished the season 22-2, lost 64-63 to St. Catherine’s (17-7) in a WIAA Division 3 regional championship game at home in Whitefish Bay, according to the Racine Journal Times. Dominican finished the season ranked second among Division 3 teams in the Associated Press state poll, according to the paper.
