'Green Day in the Bay' Takes Spring Cleaning to a New Level

Whitefish Bay residents donated 78 bikes to the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, half a trailer of household items to Goodwill and recycled 11,000 pounds of electronic equipment at Cahill Park Saturday morning.

Whitefish Bay is already a pretty clean place, but it became a little cleaner – and greener– after the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation's Green Day in the Bay event Saturday morning.

The event at focused on creating a more healthy, environmentally-conscious community, with groups volunteering to pick up trash, an informational eco-fair, a presentation , a book donation drive sponsored by the Friends of the Whitefish Bay Library and a Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin donation drive that collected 78 old bicycles to be repaired and distributed to Milwaukee Public School students through the Safe Routes to School program.

The event also gave people a chance to clean their homes as well as their village. In addition to document shredding services, the event also collected roughly 11,000 pounds of electronics to be recycled and a half trailer of household items to donate to Goodwill.
