A Piece of History Recovered from Old Pabst Resort

The Whitefish Bay Historic Preservation Commission is asking for donated Green Bay Packers tickets to acquire beer glasses from the historic Pabst Whitefish Bay Inn.

Long before Whitefish Bay became an urban suburb of Milwaukee, it was primarily an agricultural village that also hosted the prestigious Pabst Whitefish Resort, which attracted visitors from across the region.

First opened in 1888, the 18-acre Pabst Whitefish Bay Resort on Lake Drive regularly featured outdoor concerts, Ferris Wheel rides, and, of course, Pabst beer. It continued to be a destination until it closed in 1914, according to Tom Fehring's column in Whitefish Bay NOW.

A piece of the resort's rich history recently unsurfaced when a Texas man reached out to the Whitefish Bay Historic Preservation Commission, asking if the organization would be interested in two original beer glasses from the resort.

The Preservation Commission does not have anything like the beer glass in its collection and is seeking help from residents to acquire them. The Texas man is willing to hand the glasses over in exchange for two Green Bay Packers tickets so he and his son can see a game at Lambeau Field.

If someone is able to donate two Packers tickets – for either the Tennessee Titans game on Dec. 23, or as a second choice, the Minnesota Vikings game on Dec. 2, the Preservation Commission intends to showcase the glasses at the .

In exchange for the tickets, Fehring, a member of the Preservation Commission and the author of "Images of America: Whitefish Bay," said the commission would gladly offer a complimentary copy of the historical Whitefish Bay book, as well as affixing the ticket donor’s name to the display.
