Milwaukee Fatherhood Summit Being Planned

Plans are underway for the 8th Annual Milwaukee Fatherhood Summit.  The two day event with the theme “Changing Milwaukee Through Male Empowerment” will connect Milwaukee area men to valuable resources that will help them become stronger and more involved fathers.

The Fatherhood Summit will be held Friday and Saturday, October 4th and 5th at Destiny Youth Plaza located at 7210 N. 76th Street on Milwaukee’s Northwest side.  Both days will feature group discussions around some of the most challenging barriers that fathers face today.  Fathers who register ahead of time will also be able to access Child Support and Drivers’ License Recovery supportive services.

The summit will also feature a wide range of resources in the areas of healthcare access and screenings, employment, employment training, housing, education, public safety and financial education.  A major emphasis for the 2013 Summit will be helping participants understand and enroll in the Affordable Healthcare program.

The Fatherhood Summit is a project of the Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative (MFI) in partnership with the Social Development Commission (SDC).  Those organizations plus a large number of individuals and representatives from other groups and businesses are hard at work planning the two-day event that will be free and open to the public.  Pre-registration forms will be available starting in early August on the MFI and SDC websites at www.milwaukeefatherhood.com/ and www.cr-sdc.org.  Check those sites periodically for updates on the 2013 Milwaukee Fatherhood Summit as they develop.
