Building Support for Anti-Poverty Agency

The Social Development Commission (SDC) has received a major boost from the foundation created to support it. The Social Development Foundation was formed as a 501 (c) 3 to provide financial support for SDC and its programs. The Foundation held its Founders Circle Luncheon to recognize high level donors and to also mark a significant achievement. The Foundation presented SDC Interim CEO Hannah C. Dugan with a check for more than $103,000. Those funds were raised through a variety of Foundation activities including Celebrity Chef Lunch and Dinners, golf outings and an Oktoberfest tasting party. The assets will create an endowment fund that the Foundation and agency will use to generate more financial support for the agency. Support in the past year alone from the Foundation includes assistance for SDC’s Senior Companion Program which made more than 12,000 home visits in 2012 to the homebound, helped send youth on a Spring College Tour that inspired and enabled young people to continue their education, and helped more than 130 adults in the past school year achieve and then celebrate the successful completion of SDC’s GED/HSED Program. Ms. Dugan noted “The Foundation has achieved great financial support and, as importantly, expended great energy in raising awareness of the often silent issue of local poverty.” To learn more about the Social Development Foundation and how it sustains SDC and its programs, visit www.cr-sdc.org/DonateFoundation/SDFoundation.htm on the SDC website.
