Former Packers Player Plans to Open a Frozen Yogurt Franchise

In 1996, Green Back Packers fullback William Henderson helped bring the Vince Lombardi trophy back to Wisconsin. Now he has plans to bring a frozen yogurt restaurant to Whitefish Bay.

Henderson has plans to open a franchise, Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt, in the space previously occupied by What's Poppin' at 404 E. Silver Spring Dr. Previously, had received village approval to open in the space, but the prospective business owner decided not to move forward with the business.

This is the second frozen yogurt restaurant planned for Whitefish Bay. In April, a frozen yogurt chain called to do business further west on Silver Spring, next to .

Sweet Frog started in 2009 on the East Coast, and the company plans to have 100 Sweet Frog stores operating in over 15 states by the end of the year, according to the company website. The Whitefish Bay location will be the first Sweet Frog in the Midwest.

Sweet Frog sells soft-serve frozen yogurt that customers can top with a variety of fruits, candies and other items from the toppings bar.

On its company website, Sweet Frog is described as "a bright, positive, family-friendly environment where customers can create their dessert, their way – at a very modest price point."

Andy Garrison, the owner of the building, said Henderson currently lives on the East Coast but comes to Wisconsin often. He said Henderson plans to be involved with the Whitefish Bay community by helping schools, churches and charities.

"We may even see him behind the counter from time to time," Garrison said.

The Whitefish Bay Plan Commission will consider the business' conditional use permit application at its meeting on Wednesday.
