Former Packers Player Plans to Open a Frozen Yogurt Franchise

Former Packers fullback William Henderson will bring Whitefish Bay's second frozen yogurt franchise to the vacant storefront formerly occupied by What's Poppin'.

In 1996, Green Back Packers fullback William Henderson helped bring the Vince Lombardi trophy back to Wisconsin. Now he has plans to bring a frozen yogurt restaurant to Whitefish Bay.

Henderson has plans to open a franchise, Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt, in the space previously occupied by What's Poppin' at 404 E. Silver Spring Dr. Previously, had received village approval to open in the space, but the prospective business owner decided not to move forward with the business.

This is the second frozen yogurt restaurant planned for Whitefish Bay. In April, a frozen yogurt chain called to do business further west on Silver Spring, next to .

Sweet Frog started in 2009 on the East Coast, and the company plans to have 100 Sweet Frog stores operating in over 15 states by the end of the year, according to the company website. The Whitefish Bay location will be the first Sweet Frog in the Midwest.

Sweet Frog sells soft-serve frozen yogurt that customers can top with a variety of fruits, candies and other items from the toppings bar.

On its company website, Sweet Frog is described as "a bright, positive, family-friendly environment where customers can create their dessert, their way – at a very modest price point."

Andy Garrison, the owner of the building, said Henderson currently lives on the East Coast but comes to Wisconsin often. He said Henderson plans to be involved with the Whitefish Bay community by helping schools, churches and charities.

"We may even see him behind the counter from time to time," Garrison said.

The Whitefish Bay Plan Commission will consider the business' conditional use permit application at its meeting on Wednesday.

Whitefish Bay needed a place like this! Great new business for the street!

Did we? Because several weeks back it was announced that we were getting a place like this about 3 blocks west of this location. Frankly, at this point we pretty much have to take anything we can get, since it doesn't appear we have much in the way of an aggressive business development organization (I'm sure I'll be told fingers need to be pointed in some other direction, but I'm not sure what other conclusion to draw when I see what's going in in Shorewood these days). As long as the number of frozen yogurt dispensaries doesn't eclipse that of rug outlets, I suppose we're okay with a few more of these places (someone call Pinkberry and let them know WFB is THE place to open a new franchise).

On the positive side the community will have more healthy food/snack alternatives/options especially as summer approaches!!

For once, I find myself completely agreeing with Bob. :)

I think two of any type of business in a small town like ours is fine--perhaps best since it means the competitive nature will encourage top shelf service. I am happy with this news. I also like the location to help drive people strolling into the heart of town. Now we just need to do our part as a community and patronize them once they open!

It won't fly! Unless the space is better ventilated, people won't go there, When it was Just Poppin', the place was always smelly and smokey (from the popcorn & grill). We'll see.

I think it's great that a former Packer is taking an interest in our community. Everyone will like having a yogurt place in our neighborhood.

I wish them the best! Now...can we get a DECENT white table cloth restaurant in the "Berekely's" location? Or Sports bar/burgers ( similar to North Star Bistro), Indian (like Dancing Ganesha), italian....don't say the last place wasn't supported by the community. It wasn't good. Or how about a casual franchise - Jason's Deli, Pita Pit.....
