Silver Spring Drive Gets New Massage Business

Massage Envy, started by a local entrepreneur, opens in November.

Tina Beckett comes from a family of entrepreneurs. Her father and husband have all owned small businesses. And so it came as a natural move for her to also start her own company.

First, she leased space for a skincare company in another community. Now she is poised to open the doors of a Massage Envy franchise along Silver Spring Drive in Whitefish Bay’s downtown.

“I know the challenges in, and the excitement in, starting a small business,” she said.

Beckett is trained as a microbiologist and worked for a time for Miller Brewery. She has a long resume of accomplishments. But it was the field of biology that  led her to a keen appreciation for the human body and a career dedicated toward helping people better take care of it.

The massage business was the natural extension of that focus. Beckett, of Milwaukee, chose Whitefish Bay for the new business because she felt that Silver Spring Drive is a thriving area for small businesses, adding that the village was particularly welcoming to her. “The demographics of the community are a good fit,” she said. The spa will offer skin care treatments and massage therapy at its location at 109 E. Silver Spring Drive.

“We are excited to open our doors in time for the busy holiday season and provide a wonderful new spa to visit for relaxation and as a part of much needed wellness therapies for our clients,” Beckett said.

The spa will feature:

  • 4,000 square feet of space
  • 13 massage therapy and face rooms
  • Member relaxation rooms

The spa is designed to cater to people with busy schedules. Thus, it will be open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to  6 p.m.

People can sign up for a monthly membership that allows them steeply discounted rates for massages, she added.

Beckett said she is hoping that the membership concept will encourage people to partake in massages more regularly, which is when people truly see the physical and psychological benefit of them.

Beckett is the founder and CEO of Nutshell Enterprises, through which she provided organizational management and strategic services to clients, including non-profit, private and government entities.  At Miller Brewing Co., she worked as manager of supplier diversity and procurement contracts, gaining national recognition for increasing the company’s commercial relationships with small businesses.

She worked with ManpowerGroup for almost two years in a similar role just prior to purchasing the Massage Envy Spa franchise license. Beckett was recognized in 2008 as the Recipient of the Business Journal’s Women of Influence Award and received the Small Business Administration’s award for Small Business Advocate in 2005.

The Massage Envy franchise is one of over 800 Massage Envy Spas nationwide.
