Silver Spring Business Owner Takes Over as BID Director

Bay Ridge Consulting owner Karen Baker Mathu has been active in the BID since it was created two years ago.

Karen Baker Mathu has taken over as the executive director of the Whitefish Bay Business Improvement District.

Mathu is the owner of Bay Ridge Consulting, a public transportation and community planning firm located in the Fox Bay building at 316 E. Silver Spring Drive, and she has served on the BID board since it was formed two years ago.

In the Executive Director position, she will be responsible for group marketing efforts, special event management and communication with members, among other duties.

Mathu said she looks forward to continuing her work with the BID and forming new relationships between the business and the community. She said the BID has seen success in events such as the Holiday Stroll, Whitefish Bay Farmers Market and Ladies Night Out, which will return to the street in June.

She said Silver Spring is seeing some growth, as Cutting Group opened its doors a couple weeks ago, is under construction and more business announcements are expected in the near future.

“I think it’s an exciting time for the street, with the new (PNC Bank) development on Lydell and a couple new businesses about to come online, such as City Market,” she said. “There’s a lot going on the street.”

The Whitefish Bay Village Board approved Mathu's annual contract for $25,000 at Monday's board meeting. The BID’s expenses are funded through assessments on property owners within the business district.
