New Pet Store Brings Healthy Options to North Shore Dogs

Dog lovers open new shop on North Wilson Drive specializing in healthy options — and raw food — for your pet's diet.

Sherri and Erik Losby became passionate about pet nutrition after their eyes were opened to the healthy options available to their two pug dogs, Gus and Bobby.

"We are so eager to share what we have learned," they said. "We opened The Pet Outpost...to encourage others to learn about what their pets really need as far as a raw diet and nutrition, and provide that for them."

The Losbys chose the location for their new store at 4604 N. Wilson Dr. on the Shorewood-Whitefish Bay border because the neighborhood is so pet-friendly, and also because they are planning to relocate their home here as well in the next few years.

"The location was perfect," Sherri said, "with ample free parking, a great neighbor (Rainbow Jersey), and a dog park close by, making it convenient for people to stop in with their pets for a treat, or for food."

The Losbys carry more than 20 brands of food for dogs and cats, both kibble and raw, and are actively researching healthy food for smaller animals as well. They carry the popular FROMM brand, which is made in Mequon from all natural ingredients, as well as Natural Ingredients and Pet Guard Organic brands.

"Our double door glass freezers full of raw meat are our best feature," Sherri said. "We stock raw food that is high in nutrition because it really is the most appropriate for dogs and cats."

Sherri and her husband, Erik, have created a grand interior at the store that is pet — and people — friendly. The couple relocated Erik's giant handmade pergola to the store's interior, thereby creating an indoor-outdoor feel with natural textures inside.

Around the counter are handmade creations by local artisans, including Sherri's mother, who has been hand-knitting blankets for Gus and Bobby for years. A canoe holds a variety of antlers, which are naturally shed in the forest and have a high marrow content.

The Losbys found their passion for animal nutrition at the local Silver Spring Animal Wellness Center in Glendale.

“When Gus started having pug acne, we took him to a holistic veterinarian after following years of pharmaceutical treatments," Sherri said. "They showed us the value of good pet nutrition. We switched Gus and Bobby to a raw diet and they are both super healthy now.”

The Center provides many services to animals from acupuncture to laser therapies. The center's manager, Dawn Trimble, is excited about The Pet Outpost

"We believe great nutrition plays an integral role in giving your pet a happy and healthy life," she said. "We are excited to hear about the store and have heard great things already."

The Pet Outpost is now open, and will be having grand opening specials through the month of February. Join the Facebook Page to be entered in a raffle for a special pet blanket.

The Pet Outpost is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
