Milwaukee Foodie News: New Sushi Place Coming; Iconic Restaurant Closing

East Tosa is suddenly becoming Milwaukee's version of Restaurant Row with a sushi and Asian seafood restaurant planning to open on North Avenue. That tops this week's foodie news.

If you love food and exploring new places to eat, or want to find out what eateries are coming and going, we have latest restaurant and other "foodie" news from throughout the Milwaukee area. Here's a look at what's new on the local food, restaurant and bar scene.

Sushi, Seafood Restaurant Coming to East Tosa

Another week, another new restaurant in Wauwatosa. This time it's Fish Cheeks, a sushi and seafood restaurant that's planning to open early next year on North Avenue in East Tosa — right next to Rocket Baby Bakery. Restaurateur John Steiner will be creating a boutique-style seafood place, with a Japanese chef who will feature some unusual dishes as well as both authentic and eclectic sushi. "It's not a Japanese restaurant, so to say," Steiner told Patch. "There will be some very unique sushi, not what every other sushi bar has." Read more on Wauwatosa Patch.

Popular Racine Restaurant Closing After 6 Decades

After nearly 60 years of serving Racine, Dino's Restaurant was scheduled to close its doors this week because of financial problems. Dino Dominici opened the restaurant at the corner of 16th Street and Phillips Avenue in 1955. Now 82, he said it feels terrible to see his life's work ending like this. Read his story on Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant Patch.

New Sports Bar Opens in Greendale

Located in a former bank, the Panther Pub & Eatery just opened for business in downtown Greendale — just in time for that community's big Greendale Days celebration. The sports-themed bar and restaurant offers a whole line of sandwiches like a the classic reuben and BLT, spicy buffalo chicken sandwich, a slew of pub burgers and more. And if you need something to wash it down with, the pub has more than 50 beers, including 12 on tap, along with a full bar. Read more on Greendale Patch and take a video tour of the pub.

Panda Express Serving Soon

Panda Express, the fast-casual restaurant serving American Chinese cuisine, will open its doors on Thursday in the Racine County community of Mount Pleasant. The store will be one of more than 1,600 Panda Express locations nationwide and will feature items like orange chicken, Beijing beef, honey walnut shrimp and Shanghai angus steak. Pulled Pork a Specialty at Falls Pub

The Falls Pub & Grill in Menomonee Falls has reopened under new ownership. The restaurant serves up the typical fare of pizza, burgers, appetizers, soups and salads. But its specialty is the pulled pork sandwich. Owner Heather Gibler tells Patch that even though "pub" is part of the name, she plans to run more of a family oriented restaurant, by doing things like having Legos at the tables for kids. Read more on Menomonee Falls Patch.

Qdoba Fans Wait Hours For Grand Opening

We're not sure why, but some people lined up for four hours last week for the opening of the new Qdoba Mexican Grill in Wauwatosa. Said one teen who was in line at 6:30 a.m. for the 10:30 a.m. opening: "We got here so early just because we love burritos." Read more about the new restaurant on Wauwatosa Patch.
