Journal Sentinel Food Critic Gives The Bay 2.5 Stars

Food critic Carol Deptolla has visited The Bay several times and rates is at just above average. Is she right? What's your take on the village's newest restaurant.

Editor's note: The original version of this story said the Journal Sentinel critic had a five-star system. However, her ratings are based on a scale of four stars. We apologize for the error.

The Bay restaurant on Silver Spring Drive will have its grand opening on Thursday night, but Journal Sentinel food critic Carol Deptolla has just reviewed the new restaurant and is giving it 2.5 stars out of four.

In her review, Deptolla had praise for most of the entrees, such as the andouille-crusted cod, the hanger steak, the cedar plank salmon, the pizza ("gorgeous bubbly crust"), and the steak sandwich ("full, savory"). But she wasn't too impressed with the campanelle ("tasted flat") and the chicken breast (too much arugula).

And her biggest gripe was with the level of service: Wait staff not allowing enough time between the appetizer and entree, or being unable and unwilling to identify a sauce on a meal.

Still, she said, The Bay "pleased me more than it disappointed over the course of several visits."

The Bay has been open since May, so we want to know what you think. How is the service? How is the food? Post your views in the comments section below.
