Erik's Bike Shop Rolling into Whitefish Bay

With 18 locations in Minneapolis and Wisconsin, the bike shop has targeted the former Les Moise storefront for its first Milwaukee-area location.

A well-known bicycle shop in Minnesota and Madison is making its first foray into the Milwaukee market via Whitefish Bay.

Erik's Bike Shop plans to open at the former Les Moise storefront as soon as April. The store sells bicycles, snowboards, downhill skis, skateboards, longboards, scooters and all the gear that goes with them. The store, which also specializes in bicycle and ski repairs, will utilize the full upstairs and downstairs space once inhabited by Les Moise.

The business received a $42,500 retail incentive grant from the village's Business Improvement District and Community Development Authority Thursday morning. The business is expected to sign a seven-year lease on the 9,200-square-foot space.

Erik Saltvold, the owner of the company, got his start in the bicycle business when he was 13 years old with 150 used bikes in his parents' barn in Richfield, MN, according to the company's website. Since opening his first retail store at the age of 18, Saltvold now has 18 stores: 14 in Minnesota, three in Madison and one in Eau Claire.

Erik's Bikes has won dozens of industry awards, and is the largest dealer of Specialized, Cannondale and Raleigh bicycles in the Midwest, according to the company's website.

Erik's Bikes' expected Whitefish Bay store hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
