Gilda's Club Announces Name Change

Gilda's Club Southeastern Wisconsin will now be known as Cancer Support Community Greater Milwaukee.

Gilda's Club has changed its name, but not its mission.

Gilda's Club Southeastern Wisconsin has adopted the name of its national affiliate, Cancer Support Community, and will now be known as Cancer Support Community Greater Milwaukee.

Although the name may be different, the mission of the organization has not changed, according to executive director Trish Haudricourt.

“As part of our mission, we sustain people with community," Haudricourt said. "We are a community of hope, and since 2010 we have been delivering our cancer support program in concert with the community to our friends and neighbors where they live, work and worship. The name change will further enhance our program by clearly stating our mission in our name."

Originally founded in memory of comedienne Gilda Radner, the organization formerly known as Gilda's Club will continue to honor the former Saturday Night Live star's legacy by providing a free program of cancer support to men, women and children living with any type of cancer.

The program is designed to help identify and address their specific needs and concerns across the entire continuum of cancer – from diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment, to long-term survivorship and/or end of life.

The comprehensive program, including support and networking groups, educational seminars and workshops, social connections, healthy lifestyles, and resources and referrals, is delivered in partnership with businesses, hospitals and community organizations throughout Greater Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee organization's national affiliate, Cancer Support Community, provides psychological and social support through a network of more than 50 affiliate centers and more than 100 satellite locations.
