Three people were injured after their vehicle crashed into a tree early Sunday morning near Lake Drive and Fairmount Avenue.

Shorewood police first attempted to pull the vehicle over as it was headed east on Capitol Drive around 2:06 a.m. Rather than pull over, the driver accelerated, turning northbound onto Lake Drive before eventually crashing into a tree at the Fairmount Avenue intersection.

All three occupants of the vehicle were injured. The driver and front seat passenger were sent to Froedtert Hospital, while the backseat passenger refused medical treatment.

Shorewood police say charges are pending against the driver for operating while intoxicated - causing injury and fleeing an officer.
