Meet Richards' Director of Before- and After-School Programs

The Whitefish Bay School District hired 17 new teachers this year, and Whitefish Bay Patch hopes to introduce all of them to the community before the school year gets underway.

Today we'll introduce you to Katie Hundley, the site director of the new before- and after-school program at Richards Elementary School.

Teaching position: I will be the Site Director for Richards' Before and After School Programs. We will have an all-day kindergarten wrap-around care classroom (Room 112), as well as a before- and after-school program, which will be a set up and take down style in the Great Hall for the 1st though 5th graders. I will be leading a group of six, part-time employees who will help create a cohesive program with the traditional school day teachers. It has been exciting to create this new, district-run program over the last few months and can't wait for school to finally start!

Where are you from? I grew up in Shorewood and Whitefish Bay. My husband and daughter and I live in Grafton now.

Education/experience: I obtained my degree from UW-Milwaukee and have years of experience working in and running before- and after-school programs within the North Shore (Shorewood, Whitefish Bay and Glendale). I also worked as a Special Ed Para at Richards a few years ago in a temporary position so I am excited to be back as a permanent staff member!

Why did you choose Whitefish Bay? Growing up in the area I have always had a special connection to the schools and the community here. I couldn't be happier to be back "home"!

Hobbies: I love to take photos! I have a small photography business where I specialize in weddings. I love to capture special moments for people and consider myself a "details" photographer. I have learned over the years how important pictures are to people and I love to be able to provide such a wonderful service while also creating art.

Favorite place you've ever visited: Ireland will always have a special place in my heart. I used to sing in an Irish group and in doing so I met some wonderful people from Northern Ireland. Over the last 12 years, I have gone to Ireland 6 times to visit my friends and tour the beautiful country and can't wait to go back!
