Meet Meg Hammond, Cumberland's New Kindergarten Teacher

Cumberland's new kindergarten teacher comes to Whitefish Bay after teaching K-4 in Chicago.

The Whitefish Bay School District hired 17 new teachers this year, and Whitefish Bay Patch hopes to introduce all of them to the community before the school year gets underway.

Today we'll introduce you to Meg Hammond, who will be teaching senior kindergarten at Cumberland Elementary School.

Where are you from? I am originally from Indianapolis, IN and lived in Chicago for four years after college.  I now live on the East Side of Milwaukee.

Education/experience: I went to Kenyon College in Gambier, OH and received a BA in Art History.  I then moved to Chicago where I received my Master's in Elementary Education from DePaul University.  I graduated in 2011 and worked for two years teaching K-4 first at Walt Disney Magnet School (a Chicago Public School) and then at Immaculate Conception St. Joseph School (a private school in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago).

Why did you choose Whitefish Bay?  I moved to Milwaukee for my fiancee to start law school at Marquette University.  My future brother-in-law, his wife, and his children (Patrick, Julie, Greta and Marie Murphy)  live in Whitefish Bay.  From visiting and talking with them, I learned what a wonderful school district Whitefish Bay has.

Hobbies: Outside of work I like to read, paint, do yoga, and play with my dog, Claude, at the Estabrook dog park.

Favorite place you've ever visited: I visited Barcelona while I was studying abroad in Florence, Italy and particularly enjoyed the modern art and architecture of Gaudi and Miro.
