Meet Kara Gritzmacher, Cumberland's New Fifth Grade Teacher

A graduate of Whitefish Bay schools, Ms. Gritzmacher said she is excited to come home and teach at Cumberland.

The Whitefish Bay School District hired 17 new teachers this year, and Whitefish Bay Patch hopes to introduce all of them to the community before the school year gets underway.

Today we'll introduce you to Kara Gritzmacher, who will teach fifth grade at Cumberland Elementary School.

Where are you from? I grew up in Whitefish Bay and attended Richards Elementary, Whitefish Bay Middle School, and Whitefish Bay High School. I will be living in Milwaukee.

Education/experience: I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in December of 2012 with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I student taught 6th grade Language Arts/Social Studies and spent my second semester as a substitute teacher in Verona and Middleton Area School Districts.

Why did you choose Whitefish Bay? My passion for teaching comes from my experience with teachers in the Whitefish Bay Schools. I wanted to be a part of a strong, successful school district. Go Blue Dukes!

Hobbies: I LOVE the outdoors. In my free time I like to run, travel, and cheer on the UW-Badgers.

Favorite place you've ever visited: This past May, I backpacked through Europe. I traveled through London, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and Rome. I enjoyed getting lost, trying different foods, and learning about the different cultures.
