Pumpkin Display Enjoys Another Successful Year

Organizer says 2011 was "our largest year ever," with about 1,000 pumpkins carved.

More than 1,000 pumpkins later, the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation's Great Pumpkin Display drew to a close Monday night, capping another year of pumpkin carving in .

Civic Foundation Tracy Rothman said all but four of the more than 1,000 pumpkins were carved during the course of the festival.

"This was probably our largest year ever," she said.

The foundation collected $6,200 in corporate sponsorship, including longtime sponsors the Milwaukee Admirals. The foundation collected another $700 in its donation box during the five-day festival.

Rothman said the funds may cover most of the operating costs, but she still expects the pumpkin event to operate at a slight loss. She said any extra funds collected at any of the Civic Foundation events go toward wish list items, such as a new tent.

Overall, continued to be a success, with support from more than 50 volunteers and a great turnout. The event and continued to draw visitors throughout the week, even during the rainy night on Sunday.

"It was outstanding," she said.
