More Than 40 Bay Runners Compete in Lakefront Marathon

Bay's Igor Stevic placed 32 in a field of over 2,000 in Sunday's marathon, while resident Scott Krizek participated in a fundraiser that made the Guinness World Record books.

Whitefish Bay runner Igor Stevic led a group of 41 local runners, finishing 32 in a field of 2,076 in Sunday's 31st annual Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon.

Nick Szczech of Cudahy (2:22:17) and Ryan Meissen of Mukwonago (2:27:37) finished first and second in the marathon, while finished third at 2:35:24. Stevic was clocked with a finish time of 2:54:53.Β 

Also in Sunday's event, 62 runners set a Guinness World Record by tethering themselves together while running the marathon in six hours and 20 minutes. They raised $108,000 for medical rehabilitation for Jenny Crain, an elite Milwaukee runner hit by a car in 2007 while training for Olympic trials.

Whitefish Bay's Scott Krizek was among those helping raise the funds for Crain in the "Jennipede" World Record event.

Some of the other local runners finishing in Sunday’s race are Lee Peplinski at 60 with a time of 3:00:31, Michael Lovell finishing 96 clocked at 3:07:54 and Mike Giesecke at 110 with a time of 3:10:37.
