Community Corner

Communique from the WFB Community Garden

Howdy,

Happy July ya'll - it's really warmin' up and the first set of veggies have completed their migration from greenhouse to soil. Digging a resilient and adaptable FOUNDATION for our Garden is of primary and ongoing importance to our cause, especially this summer. This foundation is both physical and abstract, in the ground as well as in and amongst ourselves. The only way to accomplish communally-geared actions and ends is via the construction of a tightly-woven, empathetic, and responsive communal consciousness and structural solidarity.

Simply put, TEAM-BUILDING and subsequently learning to SUSTAIN that team is what this summer is all about!

As individuals, trying to save the world is a pretty darn daunting task, but with a small group of folks who share common aims and morals - each individual packed with unique strengths and experiences - we can begin to approach the seemingly unapproachable. This won't happen overnight, and it certainly won't happen without practice and all of our participation. Fortunately, the WFB Farmers will be hosting opportunities every week, uniting community members through the medium of the WFB Community Garden and subsequently formulating initiatives aimed at growing a more healthy, purposeful, morally-responsible, and beautiful community and food system! What do you say?

"Get involved? BUT LIFE IS ALREADY SO BUSY ..."Sure, we're all busy, luckily the Garden offers several ways to get active, each adaptable to your needs and time restraints.

  1. Volunteer! EVERY Tuesday (2pm to 7pm) and SATURDAY (9am to 2pm) we're at the garden. Only free for 20 minutes? No problem! The only way to truly learn what we're all about is to come and experience it for yourself.
  2. Participate in a committee! Committees are for folks with big ideas, looking to conceptualize the Garden's objectives and then bring them to lifeAll are welcome, whatever your level of experience or background in the focus, to take part in any of our five committees: 1) school committee, 2) community committee, 3) garden committee, 4) research and advocacy committee, 5) business committee.
