The play centers on the relationship between two sisters: Bessie, a virtuous woman who is diagnosed with leukemia, and Lee, a sarcastic and free-spirited mother. For the past twenty years in Florida, Bessie has cared for their Aunt Ruth, who has several collapsed vertebrae and their father Marvin, who was bedridden by a stroke, while Lee moved to Ohio, determined to ignore her sister and father. But, when Bessie's leukemia requires her to seek help from her sister, Lee brings her family to care for her. Together, the family learns and grows to tolerate one another despite the tragic circumstances that have brought them closer.

More About Whitefish Bay High School
Whitefish Bay High School was founded in 1932 as a public secondary school. It offers its own football field and baseball diamond and competes with in the WIAA and provides students with several different athletic options for both male and female students. The academic curriculum prepares students for further education along with offering advanced placement courses. Juniors and Seniors can participate in a Work Experience program that offers credit as an elective. On street, free parking is available for students and parents.
