West Des Moines, Iowa — Amid growing speculation that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is testing GOP presidential waters in Iowa and elsewhere, progressive activists warned Thursday at a rally here that a Walker presidency would be “terrifying" and disastrous to middle-class families. West Des Moines, Iowa — Advocacy groups for progressives in Iowa and Wisconsin are holding “Scott Walker Truth Squad” in advance of the Wisconsin governor’s appearance Thursday at a Polk County Republican Fundraiser, one of several of appearances before GOP activists that point to a possible presidential run in 2016. Advisers to Walker say he’s returning a favor to Iowa Gov. June 3 is the deadline to apply for the trustee seat soon to be vacated by Lauri Rollings.
Are you passionate about village issues? The Whitefish Bay Village Board is seeking an engaged resident to fill an open seat on the board. Applications, available for download on the village website, will be accepted until the end of June 3. No residents have applied as of Monday. The trustee seat became available after Trustee Lauri Rollings, who is expecting a baby boy on June 18, decided she would not be able to simultaneously fulfill her duties as a first-time mother, full-time professional and village trustee. Once applications have been collected, the Village Board will hold a special meeting on June 17 to review the applications. Trustees serve three-year terms and earn $600 annually.

After eight months of pregnancy, Trustee Lauri Rollings has decided she will no longer be able to fulfill her duties on the Village Board. Rollings said her resignation from the Whitefish Bay Village Board will be effective June 1, but she will be flexible if the board wants her to stay on longer. She is expecting a baby boy on June 18. "I've been doing a lot of soul searching, and I don't think I can balance my responsibilities to the village in addition to my full-time job and the duties of being a first-time parent," she said. State Supreme Court Justice Pat Roggensack defeated challenger Ed Fallone Tuesday in her bid for a second 10-year term on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Schools Tony Evers withstood a challenge from Republican state Rep. Don Pridemore in the only other contested statewide race on the ballot. Roggensack was declared the winner by the Associated Press shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday. As of midnight, with 88 percent of the statewide vote counted, she had 57 percent of the vote to Fallone's 42 percent, according to election results from WISN 12 News. Trustee Jay Miller has won re-election to the Whitefish Bay Village Board, and newcomer Carl Fuda has been elected to the board for the first time. Miller and Fuda survived a four-way election that included Kevin McMahon and Kenneth Wysocky. Both Miller and Fuda had lawn signs peppered around the Bay in the weeks leading up to Tuesday's election.
