Superintendent Welcomes Whitefish Bay Back to School
In a letter to the community, Dr. Mary Gavigan talks about new staff, the district's focus plan, student achievement and other notes for the back-to-school season.
Dear Parents and Community,
Welcome to the 2012-13 school year! As we begin school this fall, we are excited about the year ahead and proud of our high performing schools and students and are ready to make this another great Whitefish Bay School year!
This coming year promises to be an important one! We are positioned for yet greater success as we welcome 24 new teaching staff and three new administrators to the District. Our state of the art schools are absolutely shining as we welcome students back to school this year - in fact, they have never looked as good as they do today, thanks to your support from the 2009 referendum!
Our student enrollments continue to grow and district finances are managed extremely well. The School District's Focus Plan, found at the District's website at www.wfbschools.com, will guide continuous improvement efforts as we move forward and positions us well for even greater student, staff and school community success.
Most importantly, our schools continue to set themselves apart from other Wisconsin Public School Districts due to the superior academic performance of our students. With the most recent Whitefish Bay 2011-12 ACT composite of 25.9, we remain the only public school district in southeastern Wisconsin to exceed a composite of 25.0 fourteen years in a row. We have even further solidified our leadership in academic achievement and student performance across Wisconsin!
Our future is bright! Working from a long-term foundation of excellence, with a culture of high expectations and community support, we are striving for yet greater success. Please join us on October 9, 2012 for the District’s second annual State of the District address in the High School Rotunda to learn more about our future directions and improvement work. We invite you to help us make the 2012-13 school year one of Whitefish Bay's best!
Mary J. Gavigan, Ph.D.
