As it poured on Tuesday and wet grounds on Wednesday, one high school sports event after another was canceled and we weren't sure we ever were going to get to do SportsEdge this week.

But finally it dried out enough for a non-conference Game of the Week in girls soccer between Brookfield East and Cedarburg, and we managed to get around to track, softball and tennis for the Lightning Round. Check out the video for the full recap.

HONOR ROLL

Seniors Chris Harrell and Aaron Clinton-Earl of Hamilton moved into the top 10 of the state's honor roll in the 100 meters, according to WisSports.net. Harrell ran 10.95 at the Badger Invitational on Friday and Clinton-Earl crossed the line in 11.0 seconds. They are sixth and eighth on the list, respectively. Hamilton is slated to run Friday in the Arrowhead Invite.

A number of local runners also moved into the top 10 of the boys 200 meter honor roll. Harrell is fourth, Aaron Thompson of Brookfield East eighth and Brandon Kappel of Nicolet 10th.

Thompson also took over the top spot in the 300 hurdles, blazing to victory in Saturday's Northstar Classic in 38.76 seconds.

Nicolet's Ashley Green, who helped lead her girls basketball team to the Division 1 state championship, was chosen as one of 32 WIAA Scholar Athlete Award winners. All the winners were honored Sunday at a banquet in Wausau. Green has won 10 varsity letters (track, cross country, basketball) and has a 3.83 grade-point average. She will attend UW-Milwaukee on a basketball scholarship.

AROUND THE HORN

Menomonee Falls has named a new boys basketball coach to replace Ben Siebert, who resigned for personal reasons. No word yet on whether star forward JP Tokoto will remain in Menomonee Falls for his senior year or attend a prep school.

The University School girls lacrosse coach received a prestigious honor.

In Port Washington, photographer Diane Kinzer found an intriguing gallery in a weather-driven absence of actual games.

We have a nice collection of reader-submitted photos and a recap from the Lakeshore Lacrosse victory over the Madison Regents.

And NOW Newspapers reports that Wauwatosa West has fired its girls basketball coach, weeks after doing the same with the boys basketball coach.

COMING THIS WEEK

The North Shore Conference and Greater Metro Conference each hold their relay invitationals on Wednesday. Nicolet hosts the NSC while Brookfield East is the site of the GMC.

Two crosstown rivalries are scheduled to play out on the tennis court, as Tosa East and Tosa West tangle at Hart Park on Wednesday, then Brookfield East and Brookfield Central match up Thursday at Central.

There's also a North Shore rivalry among rugby club teams, as Whitefish Bay meets Nicolet at Armory Field at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

And on Friday morning, Hawthorne Hills Golf Course in Saukville hosts the Port Washington Invitational with a whole boatload of Patch teams; first groups go off at 8 a.m.
