John Doe Investigator Has Walker Recall Sign at His Home, Group Says

A lead investigator in the John Doe investigation into aides to Gov. Scott Walker during his stint as Milwaukee county executive has a "Recall Walker" sign in the yard of his Wauwatosa home, according to a conservative watchdog group.
In a story published Monday morning by Media Trackers, a home identified as that of David Budde, who works for District Attorney John Chisholm, appears in photos with the address number blurred out.
Media Trackers' writer Brian Sikma noted that along with the recall sign out front there is a "Blue Fist" union sign in the front door.
Sikma wrote: "The news could call into question the present impartiality of the probe at a time when Democrat gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett and his allies have begun to use the issue as a top talking point."
At an appearance Monday, Barrett said that he does not know Budde and could not comment on the reported sign.
Later Monday, according to a story by Journal Sentinel reporter Dan Bice, Chisholm defended his chief investigator as fair and impartial, and said that the sign was placed by his wife, not him.
"David Budde did not sign the recall petition and has conducted himself professionally and independently in this investigation, as he has done in numerous criminal investigations throughout his 26-year career as a law enforcement officer," Chisholm said in a statement reported by Bice.
"Any decisions related to the John Doe investigation are based on the evidence and not the political views of any member of this office or their families," he added.
Media Trackers had earlier reported that 43 people working in Chisholm's office had signed recall petitions. David Budde was not among them.
Sikma reported that Budde's wife, Linda Budde, did sign the petition and also works in the county justice system, although not for Chisholm.
Bice reported that Linda Budde is a deputy court clerk for a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge.

Bull, you're way off course. He is passing the buck, blaming her. When you are truly partners in marriage or otherwise, you don't go out of your way to get your partner in trouble. If you are a spouse or partner, and they are a police officer working undercover, do you blab to everybody about it because that is your right. You cover each others backs.

I am conservative and support Gov Walker as Governor but this childish bickering between the sides is ridiculous. All I know about this DA investigator is he has devoted the last 26yrs of his life serving and protecting the residents of Milwaukee County. He has shown no evidence to his coworkers, supervisors, judges, etc in 26yrs that he is not impartial when it comes to his job he has sacrificed to do. What would everyone want him to be? Republican? Well then that wouldn't be impartial. Even if he signed the petition and posted the sign I have no reason to think someone who devoted his life to protect my family is not impartial and will give him the benefit of the doubt. If the investigation would result in charges against Walker then evidence would need to prove that in court with a half conservative jury. Let's focus on the benefits of Walker and not speculate what kind of man the investigator is or criticize his marriage.

Alfred, you missed Str8shooter's point, I believe. If the investigator bows out, who should replace him, a Republican? How is that nonpartisan?
Perhaps it makes sense to some right wing extremists that only Republicans may conduct investigations, but it doesn't to reasonable people. As I have written elsewhere, the chief investigators would have made very sure that their investigation procedures were airtight at the onset. He is also not the only investigator.
If Walker had nothing to do with the improper handling of Operation Freedom funds, illegal campaigning and Open records issues (illegal router), or the tens of thousands of dollars in illegal Gardner contributions he has nothing to worry about.

Bow out of the investigation? We don't even know what his political view is but even if he does want Walker recalled who should conduct the investigation? A republican? Then that won't be impartial per your logic. After 26yrs and being a lead investigator for the largest population county in Wisconsin, I will give a man like that the benefit of the doubt until a reason to think otherwise. And what can he possibly do as being a lead investigator? Doing something such as planting evidence is a dangerous speculation and when it comes to emails and other electronic documents records are easy to prove or disprove. And no one even knows if Walker is being investigated. I'm personally just fed up with assumptions and making this recall personal about topics that have nothing to do with Walker. Let's just re elect Walker and keep it about the facts we know and that matter.

I can't believe you Conservatives are arguing with these liberals.
We all know that being a liberal means that you never have to worry about facts. Facts can make people uncomfortable, and of course, anything that makes you uncomfortable is a violation of your constitutional rights. The only fact that matters is the fact that you can only feel what is right, so if a fact happens to contradict your feelings, obviously that fact must be wrong. I am convinced that life would be easier if I join the large-brained ranks of the morally superior elite and lived by their way of thinking......
As long as you haven't admitted you're wrong, you are right. Any attempt to demonstrate otherwise is evidence of criminal hate and probably mental imbalance. Never forget that an answer to a question you have asked should always be regarded as a personal attack if the answer is something you don't like, and that the answer to all evils, personal, spiritual, moral and societal, is MORE government.

The last 3 Republican presidents have added almost a million of Government jobs while the last 2 Democratic Presidents have cut about a million. Again this is according to the dept of labor, bloomberg and so on, but I guess facts are not important. Dont you think there is a reason that the national Republicans and state Republicans are not making a big deal about how many jobs Obama or others increased in the government? Its because they can't, because it hasnt happened.

The right wingers don't respect the First Amendment right of his wife to place a sign on their jointly owned community property(which Republicans don't like in their sick interpretation of family values) She has an unmitigated right under the free speech clause to place the sign where she wants. "Backwards Barrett," right off the TV screen and into Skinny's brain. Decades of strategy, experimentation, and focus groups have led to this moment. There's nothing like alliteration for immediate saturation into that special type of brain.
What's obvious is that millions is being spent trying to saturate factoids into the state consciousness to cast doubt on the rightness of the recall effort. However, the amount of gas is in direct proportion to the level of disquiet on the barrage-launcher's side. To spend so much money they must be quite concerned.

I think you're missing the point. If this thing ever got to trial, you can bet the lawyers would attempt to make the case that the investigator was biased. It's not about someone's right to express a belief. It's about the consequences of doing so if one is in the position of being party to actions related to the recall itself, or the target of the recall.
If the shoe was on the other foot - i.e., the investigator had a pro-Walker sign in the front yard of his house, regardless of who put it there, the same condition would apply.
It goes to potential charges of bias and to the person's judgement - or lack thereof. Both of which can be used to call into question the validity of whatever ultimately happens as a result of the investigation as a whole.
