Snapshot: JCC Makes a Great CATCH

Program encourages physical activity and promotes healthy eating habits in children ages 3-5.

Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center health, recreation and fitness intern Erika Lak leads children from the JCC Gan Ami Beginnings, Preschool & Kindergarten in a fitness activity as part of the JCC’s CATCH program (Coordinated Approach To Child Health). CATCH was instituted in the fall to nurture a love of physical activity, provide an introduction to classroom-based gardening and nutrition, and encourage healthy eating habits in children ages 3-5. The program is modeled after the nationally recognized curriculum developed by the Jewish Community Center Association. Lak, a kinesiology student at UW-Milwaukee, has been working with Gan Ami children three days a week since August. Kipp Friedman/JCC
