Interior Design Group Plans to Open on Silver Spring

Susan Fredman at Home will join forces with James Hoffman Homes in Berkeley Building storefront.

Chicago-based Susan Fredman Design Group plans to open an interior design business called Susan Fredman at Home within James Hoffman Homes, a design and building company on Silver Spring Drive.

The Whitefish Bay Plan Commission on Monday night unanimously approved the business' application for a conditional-use permit to operate out of the James H. Hoffman Homes storefront at 401 E. Silver Spring Dr.

An interior designer of 35 years, Susan Fredman opened her first store, Susan Fredman at Home with Nature, in Union Pier, Mich., in 2002, according to the company's website. In 2008, she opened another store, Susan Fredman at Home in the City, in the River North neighborhood of Chicago.

The Whitefish Bay store will offer lighting, some furniture, tabletops, textiles and other home accessories. The business will also provide interior design services.

Susan Rossie, a representative with the company, told commissioners the retail end of the business will operate in the front portion of the street, while other interior design services take up the rear of the building. She said the business hopes to open in late September or early October.

The business will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., or by appointment

I am firmly opposed to this development...

...unless they sell donuts, of course.
