Honquest Gets OK to Take Over Old Peabody's Space
Plan commissioners granted conditional use permit to Illinois-based furniture store Tuesday night.

The Whitefish Bay Plan Commission on Tuesday night gave the green light to Honquest Furniture for Living to move into the former Peabody space at 121-133 E. Silver Spring Dr.
Honquest Furniture for Living, which has a store in Barrington, Ill., and an outlet store in Deerfield, Ill., has been in business for more than 50 years. The company sells furniture, rugs, mattress sets and other home accessories.
The business plans to occupy 9,100 square feet of the first floor and 3,000 square feet on the lower level of the building at 121-133 E. Silver Spring Dr. The business hopes to open its doors in Whitefish Bay in January.
The business will offer six parking spaces located immediately behind the building and does not plan to utilize the paved lot behind a neighboring home on Kent Avenue.
The business’ expected hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The conditional use permit allows the business to operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m.

Jeff, I know there were some other concerns regarding that house, aside from just the parking issue (although that seemed to be the one that was most bothersome to the neighbors). Apparently Peabody's was using the garage and parts of the house to warehouse product. Do you know if any of that came up at the Plan Commission meeting?

Bob, There was no discussion about that at the meeting, but I'm pretty confident in saying they are not purchasing the house. They would need a conditional use permit to operate the business out of that house, and that address was not included in the permit application.

But glad to hear that the new owners/occupiers might actually have to abide by the rules and processes in place to protect the neighbors around them.
