Bay Gymnastics Team Takes Sixth State Title

Blue Dukes beat out Platteville and River Falls to earn D2 crown.

Whitefish Bay's Maggie Anderson just missed winning the state title in two events at the WIAA Division 2 Individual Gymnastics State Meet on Friday, but she and the team bounced back big time on Saturday.

The Blue Dukes won their sixth championship during Saturday's team state meet in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday, beating out second-place Platteville/Belmont/Lancaster and third-place River Falls.

Bay finished with 142.167 points; Platteville had 141.266 and River Falls had 139.500.

Anderson headed into Friday's individual meet with , something the junior has yet to do in her successful career.

But she fell just short, coming in second place in the balance beam to Elkhorn's Allie Phillips, 9.567 to 9.133. Anderson also placed third in the uneven bars, sixth in the floor exercise, and seventh in the vault.

In the all-around competition, Anderson finished second to Phillips - 36.383 to 36.267.

Junior Kelly Danek took third in the vault, ninth in the floor exercise and tied for eighth in the uneven bars. She finished fifth in the all-around.

Other top finishers in Friday's meet include: senior Margaret Fitzpatrick, who placed fourth in the balance beam; and Sofie Yang, who took 11th in the balance beam, 16th in the floor exercise and sixth in the uneven bars.
