Amstar Gas Replaces Harder's Shell

The former Harder's Shell service station has transformed into a convenience store under new ownership.

Update: The Architectural Review Commission on Thursday night tabled Amstar's exterior design plans, with the expectation that the gas station will return with revised renderings in the near future.

An Amstar gas station opened Friday in the former Harder's Shell service station building. The store is one of the first Amstar locations in the Milwaukee area.

Harder's Shell station closed Oct. 1 after 29 years in business at 303 E. Hampton Road. In November, the gas station's new owner Fahim Beg received village approval to operate an Amstar gas station with an expanded convenience store in the place of the old three-bay service garage.

Amstar is scheduled to appear in front of the Architectural Review Commission Thursday night for signage approval. As of Thursday afternoon, the business does not have any signage except a small vinyl Amstar banner on a sign post.

Amstar's convenience store is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and does not have liquor or beer.

With Harder's gone, can anyone recommend a reliable and nearby place to get cars serviced?

You need to go to Habheggers. Not only will you get great service, but you will pay a lot less than you would have at Harders as well as any dealer.

The owner, Dennis Mabry, is ASE certified, just like any other mechanic at a dealership.

Great guy and they are now located across from Outpost Foods on E. Capitol behind Napa Parts.

Here is the link to Yelp Reviews. My review was so good or just too unbelievable that I was sent to the "Filtered" reviews.

My review in the Filtered reviews is top of the page by S.F. Milwaukee.

I'll second your Habhegger recommendation.

On my last visit, they were just a couple of months from moving to their new location, on Capitol Drive.

It troubles me as a homeowner regarding how nitpicky the ARC board was regarding updates to the exterior of my home, yet the Amstar station looks like a dump. I won't be shopping there anyway, since the owner used non union electricians to remodel it.

Non-Union? I will buy ALL my fuel there, thanks for letting me know.

Yes and maybe you should sponsor a family in the middle east or south asia with some chritable donations as well. I also suggest you go in there and complain about all the taxes you have to pay while they run the station tax free. I work in Cudahy and will be supporting a station just like Harders, that performs service and has been locally owned for longer than I have been alive.
